Contractors have benefited from Dan Gilbert's push to revive Detroit.

Robert Snell of Crain's Detroit Business reports:

Dan Gilbert's companies have paid contractors more than $600 million to build, renovate and rehabilitate properties in his downtown Detroit real estate portfolio since 2011.

Building permit data and interviews with officials at Gilbert's Bedrock Detroit for the first time help define the scope of the billionaire's real estate investments, which have revitalized downtown. The data also illustrate the economic impact for more than 400 contractors who have helped transform Gilbert-controlled buildings into restaurants, offices and retail shops that are luring entrepreneurs and bolstering Detroit's tax base.
