Democratic Sen. Debbie Stabenow, who is up for re-election this November, may have scored points with voters by condoning the father who tried attacking Larry Nassar last week in Eaton County Circuit Court.
During a press conference Wednesday in Washington, Stabenow said, according to ABC News:
"As a mom and as a grandmother who now has a young granddaughter in sports, I thought, 'You know, I would've liked five minutes with this guy.' I only wished that the security had been a little slower in constraining him until he could've gotten a couple of punches out, because of all of us understand how disruptive and how outrageous this perversion and this man's actions have been."
Stabenow appeared with a bipartisan group of senators who came forward to issue a harsh rebuke of the US Olympic Committee and USA Gymnastics and call for a congressional committee to investigate their handling of the allegations of abuse by former team physician Larry Nassar, CNN reports.
The father, Randall Margraves, whose three daughters say they were sexually abused by Nassar, called the former doctor a "son of bitch" and a "demon" and asked the judge if he could have five minutes, or even a minute with Nassar. He then lunged at Nassar, but was tackled by security in the courtroom before he could reach him (see the second video below).
