Michigan Court of Appeals Judge Henry Saad is charged with possessing a firearm at Detroit Metro Airport on Feb. 21, the Wayne County Prosecutor's Office announced Monday.
The charge, possessing a firearm in a sterile area, is a misdemeanor that carries a penalty of up to 90 days in jail.
Saad, 66, of Bloomfield Hills was caught with a .357 Mgnum in his carry-on bag at 8:29 a.m., The handgun was confiscated and Judge Saad was released pending a warrant request by the airport authorities, the prosecutor's office said in a press release.
“Airport security breaches -- even unintentional ones -- are taken very seriously,” said Prosecutor Kym Worthy in a statement. ”We have consulted with officials at the Detroit Metropolitan Airport, and are charging Judge Saad with a misdemeanor offense consistent with others that have allegedly committed a similar offense.”
