Michigan Reps. Todd Courser, 43, no longer are smiling.

Certainly some citizens will whole heartedly agree with a Michigan State Police detective who called the criminal investigation of former state Reps. Todd Courser and Cindy Gamrat a “waste of time.”

Chad Livengood writes in The Detroit News that during a recorded interview on Nov. 4 with House Speaker Kevin Cotter and House Chief of Staff Brock Swartzle, Det. Sgt. Jeremy Brewer says:

“For us, it’s been very difficult because who are the true victims in this stuff? Quite honestly, I think it’s the four of us sitting here along with how many other million (people) in the state of Michigan. Because it’s been such a waste of time.” Another state police detective is present during the interview.

On Wednesday, contents of that recording could surface as Ingham County District Court Judge Hugh Clarke conducts a hearing to determine whether the  criminal case should go forward against the disgraced lawmakers who had an extramarital affair. They face charges of felony misconduct in office charges.

Courser created an elaborate ruse to cover up the affair, using legislative resources and staff.
