The state has closed Wm. R. Hamilton Co.-Groesbeck Chapel in Mt. Clemens, accusing the business of fraud and dishonesty.
The Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs says the funeral home had:
- Expired prepaid funeral and cemetery sales registrations and failed to assign its prepaid contracts to another registrant or to cancel its prepaid contracts and issue refunds of the contracts to the contract buyers.
- Provided funeral services and merchandise without a mortuary science license.
- Engaged in fraud, deceit or dishonesty in the practice of mortuary science.
- Been deemed incompetent in the practice of mortuary science.
The mortuary ignored a shutdown notice and order to cease and desist operations issued last Nov. 6, the state says.
