Tuesday: Torii Hunter is on the brink of two career milestones, Matthew B. Mowery writes in The Oakland Peress, and could reach at least one in a home game this week.

Torii Hunter

Hunter sits just three hits shy of 2,000 and three home runs shy of 300 in his career. He’s already recorded 11 hits in the Tigers’ first six games of the season. . . .

The Tigers play a three-game set with Toronto starting Wednesday, before heading to the West Coast for nine games in 10 days.

The outfielder, who joined the team last year, is philosophical about the situation.

“It means I’m getting older,” he said Sunday with a laugh. “It’s an honor. I was always known for my defense and you gotta stay healthy to get 2,000 hits and come ready to play every day. For me to be around this long and get 2,000 hits, I’m very thankful.”
