Downtown Royal Oak these days looks like a man going through a midlife crisis, changing hairstyles and cars as he tries to find his way.

In the past few years, several businesses, particularly restaraunts, have come and gone. Some of that has probably been the result or rising rents and construction that has made it tougher to find parking. Royal Oak has also had to compete more with hip Ferndale and Detroit and has attracted chains like Taco Bell and Buffalo Wild Wings, diminishing even more of its once-funky feel.

Here comes the latest new restaurant, Diamond's Steak & Seafood, which opens Wednesday at the corner of 11 Milke and Main Street formerly occupied by Cantina Diablos, reports Lee DeVito of Metro Times:

The 7,000 square-foot, 173-seat restaurant is Diamond's second location, following a location in Howell. Diamond's replaces Cantina Diablos on the first floor, while the former Red Fox Rooftop on the second floor will soon be Pinky's, a rooftop patio and bar decorated with tropical plants in the warmer months. Both will be under the same ownership, with restauranteur Adam Merkel, who owns and runs the original Diamond's in Howell, joining as a minority owner. Merkel designed the menu alongside chef Craig Myrand.
