Roommate feuding hit a risky level for two women in an off-campus apartment near Central Michigan University, police say.

Kayla Bonkowski, a 19-year-old sophomore from Sterling Heights, allegedly spiked her roommate's iced tea with bleach. She was arraigned Wednesday afternoon on a felony poisoning charge in Isabella County Court.

Magistrate Sandra Straus entered a not guilty plea on her behalf and continued Bonkowski's $20,000 bond, which she posted Monday.

Bonkowski's arrest warrant alleges that she put bleach in her 20-year-old roommate's drink on Nov. 7 at their home in Union Township. The victim received medical treatment after the incident, police said.

The two women had argued earlier about dirty dishes, according to the Michigan State Police. Trooper Douglas Hunt says in a court affidavit that the Macomb County student told him she sneaked bleach into the victim's tea glass "because she is mean."

Bonkowski graduated in 2011 from Cousino High, where she played varsity volleyball. She's due back in court Dec. 13 for a preliminary hearing.

The poisoning charge carries a maximum penalty of 15 years in prison.
