Between whining to news organizations, posing for far too many shirtless photographs for an elected official, holding possibly illegal closed-door budget meetings, and getting petulant with Detroit residents, City Council President Charles Pugh has (to quote President George W. Bush) done a heck of a job in his first term.
Steve Neavling over at Motor City Muckraker says Detroit has never had a City Council President as outrageous as Charles Pugh.
But during one of the city’s most difficult times, Pugh’s strengths didn’t exactly carry over to the council table. Over the past two-and-a-half years, Pugh has bullied and patronized critics, silenced residents and instigated petty, staged fights with Mayor Dave Bing.
Actually, that doesn't seem as unprecedented at Neavling claims. It kind of sounds like Monica Conyers' brief stint as interim Council President. -- JTW
