Invited guests dined at La Rondinella last fall during its short-lived "soften opening. Local electronic music pioneer Derrick May posted this on Facebook in mid-November.
After many delays, Supino Pizzeria owner Dave Mancini is ready open his new restaurant next door on Russell Street.
Supino's Facebook page announces:
La Rondinella is set to officially open on Tuesday, January 5th! Our hours to start are Tuesday through Saturday, 5:00p - 10:00p!
We are so excited to show you what we've been working on and we promise we won't forget to cross our i's and dot our t's this time. We're looking forward to seeing you!
In September the Italian restaurant quietly hosted some dinners, and then in December, the restaurant briefly launched a soft opening, but had to close because of oversights in paperwork and inspections with the city's Buildings, Safety Engineering & Environmental department.
Free Press food critic Sylvia Rector wrote last month:
With white walls, zinc-topped tables, big windows and warm woods, La Rondinella in Detroit’s Eastern Market is handsome and stylish but unpretentious. It feels like a neighborhood restaurant — where “neighborhood” really does include everyone. . . .
But the surprise at La Rondinella is Mancini’s menu — one that represents his personal take on Italian cuisine. Rather than simply replicating traditional Italian recipes and serving the cuisine of a single region, he interprets dishes to reflect his tastes and his travels throughout the Boot. Some dishes are familiar, while others feel new and adventurous.
