When narcotics stakeout officers on Detroit's west side saw a reason to stop a 1998 Mercury Mystique leaving a house under surveillance, they pulled it over. The car had an expired license plate registration sticker -- but that's the least of it, WXYZ recounts:

Inside the trunk they discovered something sinister: A dead body. ...

Police arrested the driver and passenger.

At this point, many questions remain involving the discovery ... near Fullerton and Hubbell avenues. [Police] told us there were no obvious signs of trauma. Toxicology tests are being done to determine cause of death.

Both suspects remain in custody for now.

They were arrested shortly before midnight Saturday in the Schoolcraft-Southfield area near I-96.
