A task force comprised of the Dearborn Police, FBI, Michigan State Police and other agencies are being credited with nabbing a man suspected of being responsible for a string of rapes and home invasions dating back to 2011, the Detroit News reports.
A press conference on the case is scheduled for Friday.
“The arrest of this suspect will hopefully provide closure to our victims and it is important to note that all members of this Task Force have expended an enormous amount of resources and energy into this investigation," Dearborn Police Chief Ronald Haddad said in a statement. "This collaborative effort along with citizen cooperation has resulted in a very dangerous predator being taken off the streets.”
The statement, posted on Facebook, says charges are expected by week's end but this "is still an on-going investigation as the police are still actively pursuing leads that may link this suspect to other similar crimes in additional communities."
The assaults not only go back years, but “involve at least eight jurisdictions,” according to the press release.
In October 2015, the department began to connect the dots between the crimes, James Dickson of the News reports.
“The suspect in these incidents enters occupied homes through unsecured first floor access points,” the press release said. “The investigation is ongoing and we are currently analyzing recovered evidence to develop a suspect.”
Another release in November 2015 stated that “Allen Park, Dearborn Heights, Inkster, Redford and Garden City are currently working to identify and arrest the suspect,” and described the suspect as a male 6 feet tall with a medium build, the Detroit News reports.
