As the civil war rages on in Syria, the U.S. is taking action here in the states to show dissatisfaction with the Bashar al-Assad regime.
WDIV reports that that a senior State Department official says the Syrian government has been ordered to suspend diplomatic and consular missions in the United States including the embassy in Washington and its honorary consulates in Troy, Mich., and Houston.
The website for the Detroit area consulate says:
The Honorary Consulate General of Syria in Detroit was created in 2001 to support the Syrian community in Michigan, and to provide a bridge between the Syrian expatriates and the Syrian goverment in Damascus.
