In a special report on teacher absenteeism, WDIV anchor Karen Drew compares attendance rates at large Metro Detroit districts with the U.S. average.
Studies show teacher absence lowers student achievement. . . . For the American teacher, the national average is 5.3 percent.
Locally, Drew reports, the Utica School District has the lowest teacher absence rate -- 4 percent.
These large districts also gave figures to WDIV:
- L'Anse Creuse: 4.79 percent teacher absenteeism.
- Warren Consolidated: 6.79 percent of the time.
- Dearborn: 7.45 percent,
- Plymouth-Canton: 7.58 percent.
- Chippewa Valley: 8.1 percent teacher absence rate.
Detroit, Livonia, Southfield and Ann Arbor administrators didn't provide absenteeism percentages.
