The prosecution in the Steve Utash beating seems to be falling into place.
Tony Briscoe of The Detroit News reports that 18-year-old Bruce Wimbush Jr., one of four men accused in the brutal east-side beating April 2 of Clinton Township motorist, pleaded guilty Monday in Wayne County Circuit Court to assault with intent to do great bodily harm less than murder.
He agreed to testify against the other defendants.
The News reports that he'll be eligible for the Holmes Youthful Trainee Act, which allows him to be sentenced under a probation program for offenders age 17 to 20. He can avoid a criminal record if he completes the program.
Wimbush told the court he was walking from school and got caught up in the emotion when he saw that a 10-year-old boy had been hit by Utash's vehicle near Morang and Cadieux two months ago, drawing a large, angry crowd. He said he punched Utash once in the jaw.
