Despite pleas from her mother for leniency, Wayne County Circuit Court Judge James Callahan on Monday sentenced Roksana Sikorska, 17, to 10-20 years in prison for trying to carry out a plot against her family in Plymouth Townsip in 2014, WDIV reports.
"Nothing will benefit this child by sending her to jail," Laurene Sikorski told the judge, referring to her daughter, Guy Gordon reports. "She made some poor choices that led her to this conviction."
Roksana Sikorski used a knife to cut her 12-year-old brother's neck and tried to stab her younger sister on Oct. 17, 2014, in their Plymouth Township home. Sikorski, who was 15 at the time, said that her 23-year-old then-boyfriend, Michael Rivera, was outside the house sending text messages to her on how to fatally stab the family members.
Both were charged with assault with intent to murder and conspiracy to premeditated murder. Rivera is serving a life sentence.
Sikorski was adopted from Poland by Laurene and Jeff Sikorski , who also adopted her brother and sister, the station says.
“I would like to apologize to my family for not being the daughter they wished I could be. I promise I will get better, no matter what happens," the teary defendant said.
Judge James Callahan said he'd ask that she be kept at a juvenile facility until age 18.
