Temple Israel in West Bloomfield Township on Thursday released photos of the damage caused by last week's terrorist attack.

The attacker, Ayman Ghazali, 41, of Dearborn Heights, rammed his Ford F-150 pickup truck through the doors and into the hallway. During a shootout with security, he died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head, according to the FBI.

None of the 103 children in the daycare and preschool, or any staff in the building, were hurt. A security guard was struck by the pickup truck and was hospitalized but is expected to recover.

The synagogue said on Facebook that it decided to release the photos after "several videos and photos have made their way into the media."

"Today, we are sharing some images taken by our friend, Emily Elconin, to take back control of our narrative. We share these images because our community deserves to see our building through eyes of love, not through the lens of spectacle. This is our sacred space, and we will be the ones to tell its story."
