The Bongo Man, a staple street performer in downtown Detroit and at University of Michigan football games, has hit YouTube with full force by writing a musical love note to the Motor City.

He and co-author Sharon VanderKaay write:

Nobody's boring, not even librarians,
Home to heroes, and contrarians,
We not gonna point, call you Barbarian,
Even if you dine on raccoon carrion.

To know the real D don't watch the news,
With the burned out houses and mayors with the blues,
The D is one big hard workin' 'hood,
With the grassroot effort of people doin' good.

Lapkin is a pretty hard workin' guy himself. The River Rouge resident is a teacher when he's not a busker, and a taxi driver when he's not a teacher.

When we last caught up with The Bongo Man, he was yelling rhymes at passerbys outside of Comerica Park and trying to create the Bongo Man Party Van, "a tricked out limo."
