In 27 events since it started, Detroit Soup has dispersed $18,000 in micro-loans, and paid for projects such as: a new Detroit travel guide book; bicycle education and safety for the Cass Corridor group Fender Benders geared toward gay and transgendered people, and helping Detroit schoolchildren grow food and sell it at Eastern Market.
Her leadership of Detroit Soup is being recognized with an $80,000 grant from the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation, which will be formally announced in the weeks to come. She'll be featured in the November issue of O, the Oprah Magazine as an example of women who "Live Your Best Life."
