The French aren't exactly known for their bravery. Fans of history will remember, in 1940, when that nation's greatest living military hero surrendered Paris to the Germans and established a puppet regime in the parts of France that Hitler didn't want.
But even by this comically oversimplified French stereotype, their travel advisory about Detroit is, well, a breathtakingly effete act of cowardice: “The center [of Detroit] is not recommended after the close of business.”
Because Campus Martius and Wayne State become post-apocalyptic hellscapes around 5:01 PM, EST.
Actually, isn't Detroit's downtown center the part of the city that people aren't supposed to have to avoid? But, sure, if the French prefer to stay at the City Airport Inn because their government believes it's safer, who are we to stop them?
