It's a cliche: Friends, family and acquaintances say a mild-mannered, polite guy seems like the last person on earth who would snap and go on a shooting spree.

That pretty much sums up the situation of Jason Dalton, the Uber driver who went on a shooting rampage in the Kalamazoo area on Feb. 20,  killing six and wounding two.

Dalton was a good dad and helpful neighbor who seemed happy with his job and marriage, acquaintances tell Francis X. Donnelly of The Detroit News. He liked cars and guns, and once flirted with the idea of becoming a police officer.

After the shootings, he went back to being the polite person he was.

Friends, co-workers and customers "described the insurance claims adjuster as a reserved but friendly father of two who led an innocuous existence until that fateful evening," The News adds .

“If you lined up people you knew and had to pick someone who did this, he would be the last,” said friend Ken Engle of Kalamazoo.

His wife said through her attorney that two days before the shooting he seemed a bit down, complaining that he was tired from his second job as an Uber driver.

But that was hardly reason to believe that result in him going on a shooting spree.
