This Dude Likes Driving With The Top Down, Regardless of the Weather

Free Press reporter Jim Schaefer is on the hunt every week for life's oddities, and this week he finds a guy who likes to drive with the convertible top down, regardless of the weather.

The man's name is Laurens de Jong and he lives in Ypsilanti.

Schaefer writes that the guy isn't crazy, though we say it might be a matter of opinion.

But Laurens de Jong isn't nuts, thank you very much. The 46-year-old Ypsilanti resident has a full-time IT job, a family and a little two-seater Honda S2000 that he happens to love driving with the top down.

De Jong says it has something to do with the smell of rain, the sound of the road and the tinge of warmth he feels when the sun breaks out from the clouds on a frigid winter day.
