Michiganians have gotten used to having cans and bottles with special markings for returnables.

The U.S. Court of Appeals on Thursday struck down a state law that requires beverages sold in the state to have a special returnable marking.

WDIV reports that the court concluded that the mandatory markings illegally impacted interstate commerce by dictating where cans and bottles can be distributed.

The state law was enacted to keep people from taking beverages bought in other states and redeeming them in Michigan for the 10 cent deposit.
