Three Sterling Heights children are reeling from the recent loss of their mother and father from Covid.
A son, 20, and two daughters, 18 and 13, lost their mother Nada Ayram, 46, on April 21, and their father, Ayram, 52, on Monday, The Detroit News reports. The family came from Iraq eight years ago.
United Community Family Services/Chaldean American Ladies of Charity is collecting donations to help the family with expenses. And friends have set up a GoFundMe page, which has already raised more than $115,000. The page was started when the parents were sick, but were clinging to life.
"This family came as refugees 8 years ago with an American dream, only to get caught up in this deadly virus," the GoFundMe page says.
The eldest, Nashwan, is now paying the bills and watching over his two sisters.
"They're not doing well," Renee Yaldo, chairwoman of the Chadean charity board, tells The News. "Nash (the oldest) is devastated and the girls are not taking it well.
"I mean, they lost both of their parents within weeks of each other. They had no idea the day their parents left would be the last time they would see them."
