These days all it takes to rile some Tigers fans is to see reliever Phil Coke warming up in the bullpen, or better yet, coming in to pitch in the late innings.
Some Twitter and Facebook accounts go crazy with perplexed fans wondering why Coke is still even on the team. They want him banished or punished.
Well, Tigers General Manager and President Dave Dombrowski weighed in on the Coke man, who has a 6.75 ERA and 1.73 WHIP in 15 appearances this season.
“Phil Coke is not our issue at this point,” Dombrowski told Steve Kaminski of MLive. “I think people have a tendency to jump on situations and focuson individuals, and that’s pretty much the way it goes nowadays. But Phil Coke has had some struggles where he struggled early, but lately he has done a pretty good job for us. He has settled into a longer role, throws the ball hard. We will just wait and see what happens.” -- Allan Lengel
