There were many moments for Tigers fans to be proud Tuesday night at the All-Star Game in New York where the Jim Leyland-led American League won 3-0.

But one that brought a joyful smile to many faces -- including folks in the American League dugout -- was when Prince Fielder slid into third in the top of the ninth and stood up with the infectious smile of a kid on Christmas day who had just spotted a new bike under the tree.

Fielder knew he was given a gift.

Fielder led off the ninth and tapped one into right field. He was running to first, looking as if he expected rightfielder Carlos Gomez to catch the ball. But Gomez missed a diving catch and Fielder suddenly turned on the speed and made it to third. Sadly, he was stranded at third and never scored.

But that wasn't the only highlight for the Tigers.

Max Scherzer pitched a perfect first inning and retired the side, 1,2,3.

The Tigers hitters went collectively 3 for 6 and scored two of the team's 3 runs.

Miguel Cabrera scored the first run of the game.  Jhonny Peralta singled.

Torii Hunter grounded into a double play. Ok, it wasn't perfect for the Tigers.
