The Detroit Tigers show they're serious about 2016.
The team reached an agreement on a five-year, $110 million contract with free-agent right-hander Jordan Zimmermann of the Washington Nationals, ESPN reports.
The last step is a physical exam, a source tells the network Sunday.
Jerry Crasnick writes:
Zimmermann, a two-time All-Star, went 70-50 with a 3.32 ERA in 178 career starts with the Washington Nationals. He boasts the highest profile of any free agent to have gone off the board in what has otherwise been a slow offseason for signings.

Zimmermann joins Justin Verlander and Anibal Sanchez at the top of a Tigers rotation that has been making a major push to add depth after finishing last in the American League Central with a 74-88 record in 2015.
Justiin Verlander hopes the deal goes through. "I have always enjoyed watching Zimmermann pitch," tweets the Tigers star.
He later tweeted:Happy the rumors were true! Welcome to #Detroit @JZimmermann27 !! #GoTigersGo
