Detroit Tiger Leonys Martin, who had been expected to be trade bait this year, has become just that.

Hours before the 4 p.m. Tuesday deadline, the Tigers traded Martin to the Cleveland Indians in exchange for Double-A shortstop Willi Castro, Cleveland's No. 8 rated prospect. Chris McCosky of The Detroit News writes:

Castro is 21 and was the youngest player in the Indians’ organization playing at the Double-A level. A switch-hitter, he was hitting .245 with a .303 on-base percentage and .350 slugging percentage.

Martin, who was an energetic presence and a comic foil for manager Ron Gardenhire, was hitting .251, with a .321 on-base percentage and slugging .409. He has played through a nagging hamstring injury most of the season.
