According to a press release from Worthy's office, Zantea Marie Jackson-Pool, 23, is alleged to have been fleeing the scene of an earlier hit-and-run when she hit another car near Agnes and Field Streets on Detroit's near east side. Three children were riding in the back seat, not restrained in car seats. Two of them, ages 2 and 3, were killed, while the third, a 5-year-old, was severely injured.

Jackson-Pool was not licensed. She and another passenger in the car, a woman, broke bones in the impact.

Jackson-Pool has been charged with two counts of reckless driving causing death, among other charges. She is expected to be arraigned today at 34th District Court in Romulus.

“What happens when an allegedly unlicensed driver runs through multiple stop signs on a residential street at a high rate of speed with young children unsecured in the back seat? Very sadly, in this case, two dead children under the age of four,” Wortht said in the statement.
