The Metro Detroit Flood of 2014 has taken its toll.
In Warren alone, the city estimated Thursday that 18,047 homes were damaged from flooding for a total value of $1.2 billion, the Macomb Daily reported.
“It is more widespread than anyone thought,” Mayor Jim Fouts said, according to the paper. “Every neighborhood has been hit.”
Front lawns in Metro Detroit were filled with discarded materials from basements, much of which wasn't worth much even before the flood. Restoration and plumbing trucks and other service trucks were everywhere.
On Wednesday, County Executive Mark Hackel declared a state of emergency, the paper reported. Starting Thursday, residents can call (586) 493-6767, 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday for information.

Many folks have approached the City requesting information about how to file a claim for basement flooding damages caused by the storm of August 11, 2014. Mayor Fouts has asked that we make information conveniently available to citizens of the City. The form below can be printed, and completed and returned to the City of Warren, Insurance Division, One City Square, Suite 410 Warren, Michigan 48093 within 45 days of the date of the storm. Please attach pictures of damaged property, invoices for repairs and other evidence of the value of all property claimed.
