WDIV's Kevin Dietz shines the light on what some might consider a car towing scam.

He reports that tow trucks wait nearby at a vacant gas station near the Medical Center Courts apartments on Saint Antoine in Detroit. The apartment parking lot has signs saying cars without permits with will be towed. A spotter vehicle goes around the lot constantly monitoring, looking to tip off the tow truck drivers of cars without permits.

But Dietz report shows that the tow truck drivers work so fast that even people who go to the front office to get a visitor's parking permit can have their cars towed by the time they return.

He shows that in some cases the towing company, Goch & Sons, can tow three cars at a time. When confronted, workers for the company say it's all legal and that signs are posted warning people about parking there without a permit.

Dietz reports that the tow costs people more than $400 to retrieve their cars.
