Trayvon Martin's parents are being honored Sunday night in Detroit for creating a foundation named for their 17-year-old son, who was shot fatally by a neighborhood watch volunteer in Florida early this year. 

Sybrina Fulton and Tracy Martin will accept an award during Central United Methodist Church's eighth annual Peace and Justice Banquet at the Detroit Marriott downtown.

George Zimmerman faces trial in February's death of the teen in Sanford, Fla. He has said the shooting was in self-defense.

Michelle Alexander, author of The New Jim Crow and an associate law professor at The Ohio State University, delivers keynote remarks at the 5 p.m. banquet in the Renaissance Center hotel. Event details are here.
