Betsy DeVos worked as education secretary for President Donald Trump until a day after Jan. 6, 2021 when she resigned with a letter that said “there is no mistaking the impact your rhetoric had” on the Capitol riot.

Needless to say, there's little love between the two.

Now, Trump has endorsed nine GOP candidates for the state Legislature for the August primary. Two prominent political action committees tied to the DeVos family, the Michigan Freedom Network and the Great Lakes Education Project, are supporting competing candidates in eight of the contests, The Detroit News notices

The endorsements are likely to test the power of Trump vs. the influence of DeVos and her family, who've played a prominent role in the state Republican Party.

Interestingly, DeVos and her family have endorsed Tudor Dixon for governor in the Aug. 2 primary.

When he spoke at a Macomb County rally in April, Trump mentioned only one gubernatorial hopeful: “Now we have a candidate for governor who’s very popular, who’s a fantastic, brilliant candidate, Tudor Dixon. Thank you, Tudor, I hear you’re doing well.”

Still, Trump has yet to endorse Dixon or any other GOP candidate in that race. And it's unclear if the DeVos endorsement will prevent Trump from endorsing Dixon.
