Michigan Attorney General Bill Schuette supported Donald Trump for president in 2016, at one point saying: “I’m not going to give Hillary Clinton the master key to the United States Supreme Court."
Now, it's payback time.
President Trump on Saturday issued a tweet supporting the Republican, Schuette, in his bid for Michigan governor in 2018, but spelled his name wrong. Trump has been known to spell things incorrectly in tweets.
"Attorney General Bill Shuette will be a fantastic Governor for the great State of Michigan," Trump tweeted, according to a report by Lori Higgins of the Detroit Free Press. "I am bringing back your jobs and Bill will help!"
He removed the tweet and replaced it Sunday morning with one that correctly spelled Schuette's name.
One of Schuette's primary Republican opponents is expected to be Lt. Gov. Brian Calley, who withdrew his support of Donald Trump following the release of the Billy Bush tape.
The latest revelations about Donald Trump and his past make it impossible for me to maintain support of him,” Calley told the Detroit News last October. “This is not a decision I take lightly because I still believe that a Hillary Clinton presidency represents a disastrous alternative.”
As the race plays out, it's unclear if Trump's support will be a blessing or a curse.
As the old saying goes, time will tell.
