Man of the Year? In Michigan? Really?

Man of the Year? In Michigan? Really?

It's drizzly but mild as we write this, which is good for the people who are undoubtedly already in line to see President Trump speak tonight at Grand Rapids' Van Andel Arena, his first rally-style event since the delivery of Special Counsel Robert Mueller's report last week.

Thousands are expected to turn out for what will undoubtedly be a victory celebration; the president spent 45 minutes on the line with Fox News host Sean Hannity Wednesday night, railing about "dirty cops" (the FBI) and "sick person" John Brennan, the former CIA director.

The Detroit News reports:

The visit will be Trump's 18th rally in Michigan and his sixth in the Grand Rapids area since he began his campaign for president in June 2015, according to his campaign. It will be Trump's first trip to Michigan since April 2018 when he rallied in Washington Township instead of attending the annual White House Correspondents Association Dinner.

Trump is reportedly planning a massive re-election campaign that will target key voters in swing states like Michigan and Wisconsin that he narrowly won in 2016, according to the Washington Post.

The rest of Michigan may not be as welcoming as the conservative west side of the state, however. Democratic candidates for office have begun to stop by -- not in arena-size rallies -- particularly in the bluer southeast region. Trump carried the state by fewer than 11,000 votes in 2016.

So if you can't get there tonight, you'll undoubtedly get another chance. The 2020 election is still 20 months away.
