A peaceful Saturday afternoon at Twelve Oaks Mall in Novi quickly turned chaotic after a jewelry store robbery, prompting authorities to evacuate the mall.

Novi police said a smash-and-grab robbery had occurred at Tapper’s Jewelry and  there was no gunfire, the Detroit News reports

“On scene commanders reporting there NO ACTIVE SHOOTER at Twelve Oaks,” Novi Police Chief David Molloy said on Twitter shortly after 6 p.m., the News reported. “Officers are investigating a smash and grab robbery.”

The chief said the mall was on lockdown as police investigated.
