A young man and woman tried to carjack a 66-year-old driver Friday night at a Speedy Gas station on Detroit's west side, but couldn't start his car and ran off

The would-be thieves approached the man at 9:40 p.m. at the at Wyoming and Joy roads, Fox 2's Josh Landon reports. One had a gun. The driver handed over his keys and walked away.

The assailants got in the vehicle, but were baffled by its "push-tart" ignition and ran off.

Authorities believe the gunman is about 19 and the girl with him appears to be about 17.

"So I guess it was pointless," a gas station clerk tells Fox 2. " Now they're going to get caught, a couple of days at most. They're going to be in jail, and then the system is going to repeat itself over and over again."
