A Detroit-themed movie starring comic Tyler Perry, which filmed in Detroit, opens Oct. 19, MLive reports.

Perry plays a detective/psychologist in "Alex Cross," a police thriller involving murder and suspense.
MLive's Eric Lacey writes:

I went to see the film "Won't Back Down" last week and saw a trailer for "Alex Cross" before the film. The trailer appeared to have plenty of Detroit footage, including an inside look at the old United Artists Theatre.

The Website "On Location Vacations" wrote last year:

If you live in downtown Cleveland, OH, you may have noticed the occasional Detroit police car, bus or street sign around town as Cleveland has been standing in for the Motor City in the new film I, Alex Cross for more than two months, but now the film has officially moved to Michigan for the duration of the shoot....Alex Cross has their base camp set up at Cass and Grand River in downtown Detroit with filming taking place across the street in the Michigan Building.

The movie, which stars Tyler Perry, Matthew Fox, Ed Burns, Jean Reno and John C. McGinley, is based on a series of novels by James Patterson.
