Tyree Guyton, who created the unique Heidelberg Project on Detroit east side in 1986 -- which garnered national attention -- is stepping back from the Detroit arts nonprofit.

Jenenne Whitfield will take over in the newly created position of president and CEO, reports Kurt Nagl of Crain's Detroit Business.

Whitfield, 55,  has worked with the Heidelberg Project alongside Guyton for 23 years, most recently serving as executive director. She'll get a $10,000 bump in pay to $75,000.

"What we hope to accomplish was always part of Tyree's vision, an arts community," she tells Crain's.  "What that looks like remains to be seen."
