Bill Schnittman, a former member of the University of Michigan's national championship rowing team, who hoped to compete in the Olympics, was shot and killed in a murder-suicide in Oklahoma City where he had gone to train, Ann Arbor.com reported.

Schnittman, 25, a Bloomfield Hills native, was killed on Friday by his girlfriend's estranged husband, who ended up shooting shooting himself, the website reported. The website and the Oklahoman newspaper reported that a judge on Dec. 4 had rejected Schnittman's request for a protective order from the ex-husband.

Schnittman, pictured here on Facebook, had moved to moved to Oklahoma City after graduating in 2010 to train with the National High Performance Center in hopes of being on the men's national team, the website reported. He wanted to eventually compete in the Olympics.
