Detroit shares company with Athens, Singapore, Warsaw, Toronto and five other cities as "destinations to watch in 2015," according to Conde Nast Traveller's U.K. edition.

Our city's three-paragraph blurb, posted Saturday, describes "new creative energy" and spotlights "one neighbourhood that has become a beacon of this renaissance."

Nope, not Midtown -- it's the other beacon: Corktown.

The small inn "reminds me of the way folks used to travel – a few bedrooms above the village pub or restaurant," owner Meghan McEwen says. (Photo by Marvin Shaouni)

The magazine rounds up the usual suspects --  Michigan Central Station, Slows, Astro coffee shop, Sugar House and Gold Cash Gold  -- and also suggests Michigan Avenue lodging:

There's a boutique inn here too: the two-bedroom Honor & Folly decorated with locally crafted goods.

The uncredited writer gives a shout to Meghan McEwen, who turned a second-floor apartment above Slow's (co-owned by brother-in-law Phil Cooley) into a cozy space for up  to four guests. It also hosts cooking classes.

This is the micro-hotel's second mention in Conde Nast Traveller UK (the first was in September 2013) and its latest high-profile attention since the December 2011 debut. In a dual role as freelance travel writer and innkeeper, McEwen -- a former design publication editor in Chicago -- has placed or earned coverage in Martha Stewart Living, The New York TimesHotels We Love blog, the Nomad Lab blog, Hour Detroit, CBS Detroit and elsewhere.

"I hope when travelers are thinking about coming to Detroit, they choose to stay in this small neighborhood joint, where they can go downstairs and hang out at the bar or coffee shop – and learn something about the city from people," she posted on her Designtripper site at the inn's launch. "It reminds me of the way folks used to travel – a few bedrooms above the village pub or restaurant."
