Under Armour, the Baltimore-based maker of sports apparel and equipment, will open an outlet at 1201 Woodard Ave. in downtown Detroit next Thursday.

The store will span over 15,500 square feet, according to Dan Gilbert's Bedrock firm, which owns the building.

The company plans to tell its brand story throughout the space using athlete imagery and product installations, according to a Bedrock press release.

The store will have three fitting rooms that will be custom painted by local artists Michelle Tanguay, Ty Sawyer and Sydney G. James, featuring athletes Misty Copeland, Justin Verlander and the late  Muhammad Ali. 

Gilbert has assembled a collection of a high-profile chain stores along Woodward in his downtown Detroit buildings including the Nike store.
