Undercover Cop Saves Woman Who Is Beaten and Shot by Husband

An undercover Grosse Pointe Park police officer assigned to a Detroit car theft task force is credited with helping save the life of a Hazel Park woman who was found bound, beaten and shot allegedly by her husband.

Mara MacDonald of WDIV reports that the cop approached a new model, black Chevy Silverado pickup truck on Wednesday afternoon that was sitting in a field around Gilbo and Lyford avenues on Detroit's east side near Detroit City Airport.

A man came out of the truck, said he'd run out of gas, flashed a fake police badge and said he was with a fugitive recovery unit. 

That's when the officer spotted the wife, 32, in the front seat, bound with duct tape at her ankles and wrists and a bullet in each leg,  said Detroit Deputy Police Chief Dolunt, according to WDIV. 

“This individual had taken all of her property and thrown it in a field across the street . . . We assume, obviously, he was going to kill her," Dolunt said. “This officer saved a life.”

The husband, in his mid-30s, was arrested and the woman was taken to a hospital.
