Dave Rexroth posts this Thursday afternoon on Facebook.

Thursday, 3:30 p.m.:

Dave Rexroth thanks WXYZ viewers and other well-wishers in a Facebook post Thursday afternoon that shows a resilient, witty spirit six days after a serious fireworks accident while vacationing in Iowa:

Yesterday was surprisingly a good day. Even though I had my eye removed, it was the start of moving forward with healing. Eventually I will get a new left eye.

I told the prosthesis people I would like Max Scherzer super powers. I got no reaction. Apparently they don't follow the Tigers much in Iowa. Thank you all so much for the supportive comments and prayers!

The photo at right accompanies his message, which earns 5,400 "likes" and nearly 700 comments in three hours.

"Dave Rexroth has lost an eye, but not his sense of humor," colleague Stephen Clark comments on his Facebook page.

Wednesday evening article:

WXYZ Chief Meteorologist Dave Rexroth  underwent surgery on Wednesday to remove his eye following a fireworks accident while on vacation in Iowa.

The station reports that the doctor said the surgery went very well and that the eye was cut, but not burned in the accident.

That, the station reported, will make it easier to replace the eye with a  prosthetic eye. He will remain in Iowa until his follow up exam next Thursday.

The plan is to return to Michigan and prepare for follow-up surgery.
