Tuesday's predictions were in the zone. The Tigers this afternoon confirmed signing Joe Nathan for two years, reportedly for $20 million.

Detroit News: Nathan, 39, was introduced to Detroit media during a press conference on Wednesday at Comerica Park.

“I’m just super excited,” Nathan said. “I think from the moment I became a free agent this was the No. 1 club that we had our eyes set on. We were hoping this day would happen. For us to be signing the papers today is a dream come true. I’m excited for February (spring training) to come.”

Nathan said he signed with the Tigers because they are World Series championship contenders.

“Everybody has one goal in mind and that’s to win a championship, and that’s why I’m here,” Nathan said.

The  team designated infielder Dixon Machado for assignment to make room for the new closing pitcher.

According to a USA Today report, the Tigers have signed 39-year-old closer Joe Nathan to a two-year contract.

USA Today: Nathan, 39, who spent the past two seasons with the Texas Rangers, fills a huge void in the Tigers' bullpen. He saved 80 games the last two seasons with Texas, and has produced at least 36 saves in eight seasons.

"I'm glad he joined the team,'' Tigers right fielder Torii Hunter told USA TODAY Sports. "With his experience, he just made us stronger. He was a lot of fun when we played together in Minnesota."

Nathan is a six-time All-Star. He has 341 career saves and lifetime 2.76 ERA. He's pitched for San Francisco, Minnesota, and Texas.
