Serial defendant Kwame Kilpatrick is outspokenly upset about a state parole agent's punishment for missing a restitution payment.
WXYZ reporter Heather Catallo, who spoke to the ex-mayor briefly outside federal court Friday, says he "practically got tearful because he can’t go home to Texas this weekend for his son’s birthday."
"It seems petty. And it's just unfortunate. This weekend is my son Jonas' birthday. The department knew about that," said Kilpatrick.
The travel leash was tightened by the Department of Corrections because he didn't meet a Nov. 30 deadline for a monthly $500 restitution payment. As part of his plea deal from the state criminal case that arose from a text message scandal, Kilpatrick agreed to pay $1 million to the city of Detroit. He owes more than $855,000
Kilpatrick told authorities the latest payment "slipped my mind," according to Robert Snell of The Detroit News
The News reports that records also show Kilpatrick was "dumbfounded" that he has to appear next week before Wayne County Circuit Judge David Groner, who wants to talk about the proceeds from his autobiography, which are supposed to go toward his restitution.
