Update: Tuesday, 12:09 p.m. -- The city prosecutor will not issue charges against Edsel Ford II after his arrest in Grosse Pointe Farms on allegations of domestic violence, WXYZ reports.

WXYZ reports that authorities determined there was insufficient evidence to file charges. Ford has already been released from custody.

James David Dickson of the Detroit News reports that Daniel Jensen, Grosse Pointe Farms director of public safety, said there was enough probable cause to make an arrest, but tensions cooled and Ford’s wife had decided not to participate in the case.

The incident took place about 11:30 p.m. Monday and involved alcohol, police said.

Ford was accused of taking away a cell phone his wife was using to record the incident, the News reports. That, coupled by  “signs of a struggle”, resulted in the arrest, Jensen said, according to the News.

The News reports that Ford's wife, Cynthia, was not using the phone to call 911.

Update: Tuesday, 10:20 a.m. -- The Wayne County Prosecutor's Office says that Edsel Ford II has been charged by the Grosse Pointe Farms‎ City attorney. He is scheduled to be arraigned on the charges at 10:30 a.m., the Detroit Free Press reports.

The Ford family, Detroit's royalty, which has managed to fly under the public radar for a long time, is making headlines.

Sources tell WXYZ  that Edsel Ford II was taken into custody in Grosse Pointe Farms on domestic violence charges.

The station reports that he's in jail and will make a court appearance.

Ford, 67,  is the great-grandson of Henry Ford and the son of Henry Ford II. He is a member of the board of directors of Ford Motor Company. He is married to Cynthia Ford.

They married in 1974 and have four children.

Crain's Detroit Business wrote last year:

Edsel Ford II has community involvement both wide and deep, but perhaps his signature project was chairing the Detroit 300 Committee, the city’s 300th anniversary celebration that resulted in Campus Martius Park. Ford made sure the funding for the $20 million park was rasied and that it opened on time in November 2004, an achievement that made him Crain’s Newsmaker of the Year.
