Update, 11:55 p.m.: Veteran quarterback Aaron Rodgers and the Green Bay Packers outplayed and outclassed the Lions at Ford Field Sunday night, delivering Detroit its third defeat in a row after it showed so much promise during a good chunk of the season. The Packers won 31-24, taking first place in the division.
The Washington Redskins lost to the New York Giants earlier in the day, assuring a playoff spot for the Lions. However, the final three losses of the season certainly give fans reasons to wonder if their team will go very far in the post-season.
Detroit, which captures a wild card spot, will play the Seahawks on Saturday in Seattle at 8:15 p.m.
The editor of Crain's Detroit Business puts the postseason game into historic context:
Last time #DetroitLions won their division, Governor Bill Clinton and I had just moved from the Arkansas statehouse to the White House

Original article:
More than an hour before the the Detroit Lions were to play the Green Bay Packers for first place, they slipped into the playoffs, thanks to the New York Giants.
The Giants beat the Washington Redskins 19-10 in a must-win game for the Redskins, who end up missing the playoffs.
Of course, while the Lions still have something to play for Sunday, it makes the clash with the Packers at Ford Field a little less dramatic.
If the Lions win, they host the Giants next Sunday. If they lose, they go to Seattle.
