University Director of Communications Matt Lockwood and President Charles Parrish of the American Association of University Professors-American Federation of Teachers Local 6075 both confirmed that a previous labor contract which had been extended several times since it lapsed in July is extended yet again until Feb. 17.
The first bargaining session since Dec. 21 was arranged for Thursday afternoon, Parrish told the Crain's writer.
The union represents more than 1,600 academic faculty and staff members.
If no deal is reached by spring, WSU could change from a closed shop with mandatory union membership for eligible employees to an open shop under the state's new right-to-work law.
