Update: Wednesday, 4:20 p.m. --The man suspected in a quadruple murder early Wednesday previously spent 16 years in prison for second-degree murder and was the subject of a rejected personal protection order filed by his wife, according to public records and the Michigan Department of Corrections, the Detroit News reports. The children killed were: 4 ,6, 17 and 19.

Police were called to violent scene on Wednesday morning.
Four children were murdered and their mother was critically wounded in Dearborn Heights, Shawn Ley of WDIV reports. The father himself in to police.
It all happened at a home on Hipp Street near Annapolis Street.
Investigators say a man called police at about 1:30 a.m. to say he murdered his family. He was on the front porch waiting to surrender to police, WDIV reports.
Sources tell the station that man’s 4-year-old girl and 6-year-old girl were killed by carbon monoxide poisoning in a car and their bodies were later moved inside the home. The man’s 17-year-old step-daughter and 19-year-old step-son were shot execution style in the basement of the home.
The mother was shot and stabbed. She is listed in critical condition, the station reports.
“It stemmed from a domestic violence type situation,” Dearborn Heights police Capt. Michael Petri said. “We do have the suspected defender in custody so there is no concern for the neighbors.”
